Paris 2024 Olympics Day 8 Live Updates: Deepika Kumari’s Olympic campaign ended after a narrow loss to eventual silver medallist Nam Suhyeon of South Korea in the women’s individual archery quarterfinal. Deepika had won the first set but then it was a battle that saw both archers clash fiercely. SpanishBut the Korean eventually prevailed and Deepika lost 4-6.

Manu Bhaker had already made history by reaching a third shooting final at the same Olympics but could not add a medal to it. In the women’s 25m pistol final, she finished an agonising fourth. Manu is already the first Indian to win two medals at the same Olympics with her bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol and the 10m air pistol mixed team. Bhaker was second at one point but slipped towards the end and had to retire after a penalty shootout with Hungary’s Veronika Major.

Deepika then prevailed in the round of 16 of the women’s individual archery and will now face South Korea’s Nam, who had already won gold in the women’s team event in Paris. Bhajan Kaur could not repeat her senior’s performance and lost her playoff match by 1/8.

Raiza Dhillon and Maheshwari Chauhan are currently in action for India in the women’s skeet qualifiers. Meanwhile, Gaganjeet Bhullar and Subhankar Sharma are in action in men’s golf.

Sailing will also be on the cards as Vishnu Saravanan and Nethra Kumanan will take part in their respective dinghy races. In boxing, Nishant Dev will face Mexico’s Marco Verde in the men’s welterweight quarterfinals. India’s medal tally currently stands at three with Bhaker winning two bronze medals. Meanwhile, Swapnil Kusale also has a bronze medal in shooting.

There was plenty of action on the 7th as Indian athletes competed in badminton, shooting, judo, archery, hockey and more. Lakshya Sen is now the only one left and has secured a place in the men’s singles semifinals. Meanwhile, in shooting, Manu Bhaker continued her quest for a hat-trick of medals at Paris 2024 by qualifying for the women’s 25m pistol final, but Esha Singh missed out on a place.

In judo, Tulika Maan was eliminated, losing her round of 16 match in the women’s over 75kg category. In archery, India’s results were mixed as they beat Indonesia in the mixed teams round of 16, followed by a win over Spain in the quarterfinals. But they then lost to South Korea in the semifinals and then suffered a defeat to the USA in the bronze medal match. Meanwhile, in men’s hockey, India returned to winning ways by beating Australia 3-2 in their final group match. They will face Great Britain in the quarterfinals on Sunday. In athletics, there was much disappointment as Parul Chaudhary and Ankita failed in their respective heats in the women’s 5,000m. Tajinderpal Singh Toor also failed to qualify for the men’s shot put final. India also participated in rowing and sailing activities.
